Kruger National Park is a year-round destination, but the experience varies dramatically depending on when you visit.
Dry Season (May – September) — Best for Game Viewing
The dry winter months are universally considered the best time for wildlife viewing:
- Sparse vegetation makes animals easier to spot
- Animals gather at water sources
- Lower malaria risk
- Pleasant daytime temperatures (20-25°C)
July & August
Peak dry season and peak game viewing. Book well in advance.
September
Vegetation at its most sparse. Excellent game viewing.
Wet Season (October – April) — Best for Birding & Scenery
- Migrant birds arrive — 200+ species
- Newborn animals
- Dramatic thunderstorms
- Fewer tourists and lower prices
Our Recommendation
- Best overall: July–September
- Best value: March–May
- Best for birding: November–March
